Current practice and expertise
A consultant cardiologist with a special interest in chest pain and coronary interventions, Dr Guttmann is based at The Wellington Hospital and the Golders Green Outpatients and Diagnostics Centre, both part of HCA Healthcare UK. He also has an NHS practice at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he’s Clinical Lead for the Coronary Catheter Laboratories at Barts Heart Centre.
Dr Guttmann treats all aspects of general adult cardiology and helps patients with symptoms including high blood pressure, palpitations, and high cholesterol. He also runs a myocarditis and inflammatory heart muscle clinic, seeing patients with cardiomyopathies, particularly myocarditis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Experience and other roles
Dr Guttmann gained his medical qualification from University College London (UCL) in 2005, along with a first-class degree in neuroscience from Cambridge University, before becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008. Following this, Dr Guttmann trained in cardiology at the Heart Hospital, the London Chest Hospital, and Barts Heart Centre.
He later achieved an MD (Res) degree from UCL for his work on atrial fibrillation and stroke in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His interest in research has seen him publish work in the areas of inherited inflammatory heart disease, cardiomyopathy risk stratification, and minimally invasive coronary intervention outcomes.
In addition, Dr Guttmann is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, an honorary associate professor at UCL, and an editor for Cochrane Heart.
